YENIDUNYA WILD FLOWER WALKS
A day among the orchids and wild flowers of Northern Cyprus.
Designed to appeal to wild flower and orchid enthusiasts,
walkers, bird watchers, artists and historians.
Mid February to early May.
We offer an
interesting day out here in Hisarköy,
a traditional Turkish Cypriot village on the southern slopes of
the Kyrenia Mountains. Within a twenty minute walk of our
smallholding we have identified 23 different species of orchid,
including the extremely rare Orchis punctulata. At the
same time of year there is an abundance of other wild flowers
including several endemics.
A typical day out is
divided into two sessions:
1.
Morning walk.
A walk to
the east over fairly gentle terrain lasting about two hours.
Many different species of orchids are seen, including the very
rare Orchis punctulata, as well as endemic wild flowers.
Return to
the house, Yenidunya, for a cold drink and lunch of home
baked quiches and salads followed by cheesecake.
2.
Afternoon walk.
Also scheduled to last
two hours, a gentle walk to the west to an orchid glade, an area
of black tulips and other wild flowers. The circular route takes
in the medieval Maronite Church, Ottoman Turkish bath, bronze
age tomb and traditions of the village.
Cost:
£15 per person
Discounts
are given to pre booked groups (Numbers: minimum 10, maximum 25
persons).
The day can be
organised to suit visitors of all ages and abilities. We are
flexible and will take into account all interests and needs.
